Ryzen 7 3700x Features
The Ryzen 7 3700X is a 3rd generation processor released by AMD in mid-2019 based on the newer and improved architecture known as the Zen2. The Zen2 is the enhanced architecture than its predecessor Zen+, which allowed AMD to further shrink the fabrication process from 12nm to 7nm. The Zen2 architecture is a superb work by AMD because it helps the processor to deliver even better performance with less power consumption.
The 3700X packs 8 cores; each core is executing 2 threads at once, making 16 threads. This processor boosts up to 3.6GHz on the Base frequency and up to 4.4GHz on Turbo Boost frequency.
The newer and advanced Zen2 technology has helped the processor pack a staggering 4MBs of L2 and 32MBs of L3 Cache size, making 36MB GameCache. If we look at the statistics, the 3800X is undoubtedly the better and more powerful processor than the 3700X. It offers better clock speeds, both on Base and Turbo Boost frequency, boosting up to 3.9GHz on base and 4.5GHz on Turbo Boost, compared to the 3700X’s 3.6GHz and 4.4GHz, respectively.
The difference is not that great, but these slight differences carry a lot of importance if you’re a serious gaming enthusiast. There is no doubt that the 3800X will offer an outstanding gaming experience compared to the 3700X.
But, the 3800X also features a higher TDP than the 3700X, a 105W TDP, compared to the 3700X’s 65W TDP, which means that the 3700X consumes less amount of power, while the 3800X has more chances of overheating when it comes to running heavy games and serious workloads.
As discussed earlier, the 3800X offers a better gaming experience and handles heavy workloads with ease, but this does not mean that the 3700X is a mediocre processor. After running different games and heavy applications on both the processors, the performance gap between both the processors was relatively insignificant.
The 3700X made sure to offer excellent gaming performance and handle serious workloads, although the 3800X was a bit superior. In the end, it comes down to your budget and the type of applications you run on your processor.
Winding-up
To sum it up, both the 3700X and 3800X are outstanding processors offering exceptional performance, but the 3800X’s better clock speeds ensure a slight advantage in gaming and handling heavy workloads. But, this slight edge in performance comes with a cost of about 21% more money out of your pocket, which, in our opinion, is not the right way to go.
The 3700X offers almost the same performance, consuming less power, and is cheaper too. But, if you’re a true gaming and performance enthusiast and care about even the slightest details, you should go for the 3800X as it offers better performance as it will satisfy your needs.
But, if you’re trying to save some money or have a tight budget, you should buy the 3700X, as it offers almost the same performance with less power consumption. In today’s comparison, the Ryzen 7 3700X is the real winner for us because spending almost $70 for just a slight edge in performance is not such a suitable choice.
